Jomsom & the Kali Gandaki
(16 Days/Lodges/Hotels)
| Ascending the dramatic Kali
Gandaki Gorge between Annapurna and Dhaulagiri to
the mountain town of Jomsom |
It
is the deepest gorge in the world, cut bye the sacred
Kali Gandaki river, it passes between the great massifs
of Annapurna and Dhaulagiri, soaring to over 8000M on
each side. Our route takes us across the Annapurna
foothills, through villages, terraced hillsides &
rhododendron forests to Tatopani where we meet this
spectacular river. The gorge was the main trade route
between Tibet and Nepal, and the well – kept and
colorful teahouse lodges of the local Thakali people are
renowned throughout the region for their hospitality. As
we trek northwards towards mustang and Tibet the valley
opens out with stark, wind-eroded rock formations
towering above tiny villages and ancient ruined
fortresses. Our journeys end in Jomsom, a remote
mountain town, from where we take a spectacular flight
back to Pokhara and continue to Kathmandu.
